  4. black/white, grayscale and color PalmPilot screens as standard Windows
  5. bitmaps anywhere, anytime.

  9. ScreenShot Hack captures the current screen of any application.
  10. Black/white, 2-bit grayscale, 4-bit grayscale (on Palm IIIx, V, Vx...) and
  11. color (on Palm IIIc) screens are supported.

  13. To start the screenshot, enter one of three  rarely used graffiti
  14. strokes: 
  15. -  the  Graffiti stroke for 'next field', the  down-up stroke (default) 
  16. -  the  Graffiti stroke for 'previous field', the  up-down stroke  
  17. -  the numeric keyboard popup (tap in the lower right corner of the
  18. Graffiti area) 
  19.  
  20. When the stroke is entered, ScreenShot Hack will immediately capture
  21. anything that's currently on the display.  Screenshot Hack puts itself
  22. into the system event handler. This means you can capture screens from
  23. almost all applications and games.

  25. In some situations, e.g. when showing the built-in keyboard, the standard
  26. event handler is not used and thus the ScreenShot Hack activation
  27. stroke can not be entered.  In these cases, you can make delayed
  28. screenshots. Check the Delay checkbox and enter an appropriate number of
  29. seconds in the ScreenShot Hack option panel. Then switch to the launcher
  30. or wherever the activation stroke is working and enter the ScreenShot Hack
  31. activation stroke. Then proceed to the screen you want to capture. After
  32. the specified number of seconds, the current screen will be captured.

  34. As the name ScreenShot Hack suggests, it is a special kind of program
  35. that requires Edward Keyes' Hackmaster to run. ScreenShot Hack will not
  36. appear in the list of applications, but rather in the  Hackmaster's list
  37. of system hacks. Don't be worried by the word Hack, it's a completely
  38. safe and well-behaving little tool.

  40. If you want to remove a Hack from your system, first disable it in
  41. Hackmaster. Then choose  menu->App->>Delete from the Launcher.

  43. Due to a bug in PalmOS 3.2 you can't delete Hacks on the Palm VII. You
  44. should use a special tool like Insider to remove a Hack on a Palm VII.

  46. You can make multiple screenshots. ScreenShot Hack stores all  captured
  47. images in a database ScreenShotDB.pdb that will be backed up to your
  48. Desktop during the standard HotSync. Just make sure that you configured
  49. your HotSync for System: Handheld overwrites Desktop.

  51. You can preview your captures, remove the last capture or all captures
  52. from the database by going to Hackmaster and selecting the  ScreenShot
  53. Hack control panel.

  55. ScreenShot Hack runs on all PalmPilot devices, including the original
  56. Pilot 5000 and the latest color Palm IIIc and other devices with PalmOS
  57. 3.5.

  59. On the desktop, you use the enclosed small ScreenShot2BMP.exe utility to
  60. convert the ScreenShot Hack database  into a series of 160x160 16-color
  61. or 256-color Windows BMP files named Screen00.bmp, Screen01.bmp and
  62. so forth.

  64. If the program complains about missing DLLs you might need to copy
  65. this set of Windows DLLs into your windows\system (Windows 95/98) or
  66. winnt\system32  (Windows NT 4.0) directory.

  68. If you're running Linux or another Un*x version, you may want to try this
  69. Perl script for converting the Screenshot Hack database into .xpm files.
  70. This script was written by Matthias Cramer and may be distributed under
  71. GPL. It does not (yet) work with 256 color images.

  73. ScreenShot Hack is shareware and (C) LinkeSoft 1998-2000. You can try
  74. out the fully functional program. If you want to use it for actually
  75. making screenshots please register. Registration fee is just $10 and
  76. can be paid at PilotGearHQ, www.pilotgear.com.  Registered users are
  77. entitled to support and free upgrades.
